hey i live in london and i have some advice that i think will help!! waitrose is very expensive so i recommend tesco or sainsburys. black cabs are very expensive also public transport is extremely useful and great apps that i swear by for travelling is national rail and citymapper! also there is a very specific etiquette for travel in london and how you act in public so i hope you get used to that!! people can seem mean and rude but just how we are im guessing kinda similar to new york not sure? people may not treat you the same if you come across as a tourist so i agree with you about trying to fit in in public xx i hope you have a great time it is honestly one of the greatest cities and definitely try and do some travelling around some of europe if you can xx
Some very useful tips Issy. We would add travelling by tube is safe and affordable. You can use your contactless feature on your debit card to pay for your travel (so need to have an Oyster card) and daily travel can be capped at £7.50, so once you’ve made journeys to that value the rest of your days travel is for FREE on tubes and bus journeys.
Word of advice, don’t get a black cab while in london, its hella expensive. You’re better off using UBER. and before people grill me saying “you don’t know what your talking about” – i’ve been living in london for 18 years, (I’m 20 now) and black cabs get hella expensive especially in Central London. Either use public transport or use uber. It’s alot cheaper.
It’s the same in any city in the UK that has black cabs… Black cabs are still good though, drivers are super knowledgeable about the best routes to take and they can use bus lanes etc. If you use uber a lot it can become annoying after a while because sometimes the automatic route system doesn’t work the best and the drivers don’t know what they’re doing. Also black cabs don’t have surges so in really busy times they can be cheaper
Don’t even use Uber.. the underground is the best
especially if it sounds like you’re a tourist, then the cabs take you the scenic (suspiciously long) routes
or just get a student oyster card and use buses/tube everywhere!!
Hana same in New York City! The yellow taxis (or green depending on the borough) are always more expensive. It’s cheaper to use an Uber or get a regular taxi from a taxi service.

It’s so weird to see you in a place that I know so well, to see someone I love who usually sports the american setting to be in wet and cold London! I live about an hour away, which compared to half the world away makes me feel so close to you ahh! I’m going to be in London nexon Saturday 9th Feb, gonna keep my eye out for the bouji fashionista with blonde locks haha! I live in London and you guys should try and visit the London market Camden. It’s have different activities there and lots of different foods and you can shop till you drop.

wow this video made my heart soar. i studied abroad in london last year and you have transported me right back!!! enjoy these days you will for sure remember them your whole life!!! and coffee shop work days were my most favorite too how does london make coffee and productivity so easy and perfect??? some of my favorites were monocle in marylebone, monmouth in seven dials, and gails all over but specifically the one near tottenham court road. cannot wait for more of these sweet reminders of my favorite memories!!!!!
